GALLAGER MODEL 1860 CARBINE

#12709. Cal. 50 percussion. Standard 22 1/4" round barrel, retaining about 60% of original blue, balance turning patina The casehardening on the frame has turned into a silver patina, the patchbox has traces of color case. Mechanically perfect with an excellent bore. No visible cartouches. Buttstock shows traces of usage but is in very fine condition. There is a spare nipple present in the patcbox. These carbines saw extensive service with the Union cavalry during the Civil War war but the weapon was not well liked by the troopers due to the difficulty in extracting the spent cartridge casings from the breech. Total production of the Gallager percussion carbine was 17.728. All were purchased by the U.S. government. This one was made in 1863 and delivered on july 21, 1863. A good honest Civil War carbine in very fine condition. Cartridge shown for information purposes only.
