BURNSIDE MODEL 1864 CARBINE
#11466. Cal.54 Percussion. Standard 21" Round Barrel. Late Fifth Model; Guide screw in center of right frame, 1864 rear sight, S shaped hammer, Burnside 1864 patent on frame. Barrel and lever have a light blue, brown finish, frame is mostly grey with some traces of color case. Wood has traces of usage and a couple of dings on the right side of the buttstock. All serial numbers are matching. Mechanically perfect and has a shiny bore. There are 2 perfect military cartouches on the left side of the stock, H.D.H (Henry D. Hastings) and G.C. (George Curtis). Both men were miliatry inspectors for the Burnside fifth model carbine. There are also military inspector initials on every part of the gun. This carbine was manufactured in 1864 and delivered to the military on june 30 of that year. The Burnside Carbine was very popular with the cavalry units as it was considered very accurate and reliable, it was the third most widely used Union carbine during the war after only the Spencers and Sharps. A few of the cavalry regiments being armed with the Burnside carbine during thr Civil War were; 1st New Jersey, 1st Michigan, 3rd Indiana, 5th, 6th & 7th Ohio, 3rd West Virginia 13th, 14th and 18th Pennsylvania.
