U.S. MODEL 1887 CARBINE BOOT
Original U.S. Indian Wars Model 1887 "Trapdoor Springfield" Carbine Boot Scabbard designed to be attached to the McClellan saddle. A faint marking of the " Rock Island Arsenal" stamp is visible on the top right side. Manufactured in the later 1880s through the 1890s. This is the model with the brass guard on the front that incorporated all the improvements of the period and served the Regular Army Cavalry until it was replaced in 1896. It continued in service in great quantity in the many state militia cavalries into the late 1890'S. Nice accessory to add to a Springfield or Indian Wars collection! Overall condition is very fine.
