U.S. MODEL 1872 HAGNER No.2 CAVALRY CARTRIDGE BOX
This is a modified Hagner No.2 Cartridge box. Caliber 45-70 Government. Has a 24 rounds capacity in three rows of 8 cartridges. Two internal rows, and one on the face of the body box. This is the "Cavalry" variation which has its tab attached to the bottom of the box by 2 rivets, and its reversal of the positions of the closing tab and finial. No.2 is stamped on the back in the center of the box, it also has inspector's initials on the closing tab. Initials inner side of flap, significance unknown (owner?). Rare box in fine condition.
